Business is used to represent areas like marketing, sales, finance, even higher level management for engineering.
People may ask, "why an engineer paid with $150k is considered well-paid and capped at a number that is not so big? On the contrary, any of the marketing folks can be paid big bucks, but still considered low and upper-bound is unlimited???"
Actually, the pay is quite fair. Imagine a good engineer that can fix bugs in a timely manner, or implement a feature fast enough. What impact does that have in the overall business? Seriously, it is not hat much. At most, it makes the managers look better and less worry. Will it add couple bucks to the revenue? Probably not. Why? Engineering schedule is ALWAYS planned with plenty of "time buffer" in place!!! If, a problem shows up at the last minute, aka a day before the box is being shipped to customer (very rare), one smart engineer steps up and fixes the problem. This engineer will be rewarded very decently. What does this mean? A marketing's decision may bring in millions or even billions of dollars for the company, while an engineer (even top-notched) can bring in near-to-zero revenue to the company, it is quite obvious who will be better compensated by the company, thinking from the "commission" perspective.
