War between x86 and ARM

So, is there a war? who is the winner? pondering about this, an article drew my attention, http://www.brighthub.com/computing/hardware/articles/107133.aspx.

Several factors to consider,

- formost, the instruction sets. Anyway, that is all it is about the difference between the two; ARM is simpler. "simpler" - does it ring a bell to cost? cheaper? some specifics, an ARM achieves 1GHz can fit into 2watt TDP, while Atom struggle to dip below 5watt TDP. However, 64-bit is not avail on ARM yet. ARM is also limited to Andoid, iOS and other embedded operating systems, while x86 is wide spread to windows, OS X and Linux.

- existing playgrounds. of course, they mean the Intel- or AMD- based boxes, versus the smartphone and tablets;

- licensing hence popularity. x86 is Intel's, period, with the old license for AMD and VIA; however, ARM is a totally different story. As a direct result, it is wide spread.

Winner? not yet. mostly, in the old days, they focuses on different market sector. Things can change, though. new Atom can run Android, while NVIDIA is making laptop chips based on ARM.

We will see.
